1988 – NOW
As entrepreneur he performs strategy, portfolio & innovation process management and consultancy for several medium sized and large organizations in different market segments (health care, media, public sector, production, retail, publishing, transport, telecom, information technology). From 1988 up until 1999, he consulted public organizations on the use of advanced ICT facilities like geo information, knowledge management systems and simulations.
2004 – now: Strategy, Portfolio & Innovation process manager: Responsible for the guidance of organizations towards a sound strategy, a solid portfolio and effective innovations. Advised several large organizations (information services, insurances, communities, sports services) in developing their strategy, optimizing their portfolio and developing innovative solutions fit to their portfolio.
2004 – now: Innovation Advisor: Responsible for acquisition and delivery of innovation advisory and management projects. Guided SME organizations in developing and implementing innovation strategies. Interim management of teams between 3 and 20 people.
1996 – 1999: Project Manager: Responsible for the human interface & groupware theory implementation for the LWI Foundation. Project budget >500 k€ per year; managing team of 6 – 12 international experts from profit and non-profit organizations.
1995 – 1999: Knowledge management advisor: Develop knowledge management strategy plans for educational organizations, governmental organizations and profit organizations.
1995 – 1998: R&D manager: Develop urban environment simulation facilities for the LWI foundation; based on advanced theories resulting from own research at the university; manage an international team of 3 programmers and 8 (junior) researchers.
1991 – 1995: Geo information advisor: Perform GIS package selection for universities, governmental organizations and consultancy firms. Develop geographic information management plans for local, regional and national government bodies and profit organizations.
1988: Project Manager: Design and develop a computer game & environment simulator on behalf of the NNAO Foundation; manage the team responsible for model development.

2005 – 2009
From halfway 2005 on he took up the challenge to support a large international IT integrator in innovating her portfolio. He worked here as strategy & innovation consultant / solution manager / business development manager / market manager for a.o. the media & entertainment and the health care & insurance market. In these roles he is responsible for the development of innovative solutions for these markets. He has initiated and managed the development of a community services platform. This platform enables large consumer oriented organizations to outsource the communication to their consumers, enabling their consumers to interact. The platform enables the seamless integration of services and products between many connected organizations. This platform is the foundation under large international sports events. He also initiated the development of hosted SME extensions of the organizations Portfolio.
2008 – 2009: Business Development Manager: responsible for the invention, development and deployment of new solutions for the health care & insurance, lifestyle, media & entertainment markets.
2007 – 2009: Senior Strategy & Innovation consultant: responsible for both internal & external consults & coaching.
2007: Sector Solution Manager Media & Entertainment: responsible for the invention, development and deployment of a range of market specific solutions.
2005 – 2006: Business Development Manager / Innovation Manager Media & Entertainment: responsible for the development of innovative projects together with clients and partners. Also responsible for market analysis, market approach strategy, business innovation strategy, business plans.

1999 – 2004
From 1999 until halfway 2004, he worked with another large international IT integrator. In his last role within this organization he was responsible for the international business development activities in new client environments for Mobile Traffic Services. He thereto organized and developed the client and partner contacts, awareness and business cases. He finds and effectuates collaboration opportunities for these areas and organizes the budgets, the marketing and facilities to expand the market in these areas. Before that, his role was international business development manager in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems. His tasks were to analyze markets, develop business cases, initiate new business, manage marketing & communication and maintain the relevant partner and client relations. Internally he was responsible for research program management and knowledge management. He initiated several innovative projects. He for example developed a strategic plan for the enlargement of the catchment area for a major Dutch Airport that led to the development of a biometry based border passage facility. He also set up an R&D program on dynamic traffic information, initiated a new concept for traffic information gathering and made a business strategy for the enrolment of Europe-wide traffic information gathering. Currently this facility is the core for a world reknown navigation appliances company's High Definition traffic information services. Alexander also initiated the mobile ticketing proposition a large international IT services provider now offers worldwide to its clients. In 2002, he was responsible for the introduction of Cell Broadcast as a medium for civil alarming in case of emergencies. Currently this facility is being implemented in several cities in the Netherlands and abroad.
2004: International Sales support manager: Responsible for the production of business plans and market, partners approach plans and implementation plans.
2003 – 2004: International Project Manager: Responsible for project acquisition, partner selection and management and project performance.
2000 – 2004: International Marketing & Communications manager: Responsible for the performance and execution of international market analyses and market knowledge dissemination. Responsible for the organization of our business line’s presence on national and international conferences & exhibitions and responsible for the development of our business line’s international marketing collateral.
2000 – 2004: International Business Development / Innovation Manager Traffic, Travel & Transport: Responsible for the international dissemination of internal and external knowledge in the field of traffic, travel & transport. Responsible for the relation management with international branch organizations. Responsible for the initiation and acquisition of innovative new business with clients and partners. Manage a virtual international team of account managers and domain experts throughout our worldwide organization.
2000 – 2003: International Innovation consultant: Responsible for the development of innovative project initiatives with clients, for the development of business cases, the performance of market analysis, the lay out and management of pilot projects and partner selection and management.

As university researcher and lecturer, he was active in the areas of geo information systems, decision support systems, environmental models and simulation techniques. He has developed amongst others a method to analyze the impacts of an environmental design while designing. He has produced a range of publications in the areas of intelligent traffic and transport, new business development, policy making, policy related information technology, geographical information systems, simulation frameworks, design research, creativity and electronic publishing. He has been active in several committees on subjects as diverse as “spatial information and IT”, “New concepts for university education" and "Impact of internet on scientific publishers").
1997 – 2000: Initiator and first editor in chief of “Design Research on Internet”, an international scientific internet magazine (now respected as "Journal of Design Research"): Organize recommendations, financial means and facilities to deploy the magazine organization. Manage the international editorial and referee boards of the magazine.
1995 – 1999: R&D manager Design & Decision support systems: Acquire, organize, manage and implement externally financed research projects (>1 MEuro) in close co-operation with international commercial and non-commercial organizations.
