TK Maxx was a start-up in 1993 an was to be the European trading division of The TJX Companies Inc. TJX has sales of $8bn and is the world’s largest “off price” fashion retail organisation. It operates 1,200+ large stores across North America under a number of different fascias (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Homegoods, Winners, AJ Wright). TK Maxx commenced trading in April 1994 and since then has opened a total of 74 stores across the UK (69), Ireland (2) and The Netherlands (3).

Vice President, IT & Distribution Director

Responsible for IT & Distribution strategy and the development and delivery of all systems, communications, logistics, warehousing and transportation necessary to support the companies 8 fold growth in retail operations and beyond.

Promoted from AVP in 1998 and challenged to define the IT & logistics strategy for supporting further rapid growth to 100 stores and beyond.

Management of a £18m budget, and 750 employees covering all Information Technology, Warehousing and Transport.

Planned and implemented a new multi-DC logistics strategy requiring major systems development. Opened an additional 140,000-sqft distribution centre in 1999, reconfiguring the existing facility and provided capacity for growth to 100 stores.

Worked closely with the business and developed a 5 year IT strategy (250 stores) for systems development that is currently being implemented. Changes will improve the productivity of many business processes, and use B2B via the internet.

Defined the company’s business strategy for EURO migration and necessary systems requirements.

Conceived and developed a new long term strategy and 5-year plan for Distribution and the Supply Chain, which is being implemented. Identified locations for 330,000-sqft of additional distribution capacity, and detailed design is currently underway.

Led the company wide Year 2000 compliance and contingency project and head office relocation projects with zero disruption.

Assistant Vice President, IT & Distribution Director

Promoted to AVP in 1996 and given additional responsibility for all Distribution & Logistics functions within the company.

Developed the capacity and performance of the Distribution Centre and Transport to meet the demands of a 3-fold increase in stores, and reduce unit costs.

Led a company wide project to re-engineer business processes to support entry to the European Market, and developed and implemented enabling systems.

IT Director

Responsible for setting IT strategy and developing and supporting all systems and communications from initial business start-up.

Recruited in 1993 as the 2nd hire in the UK, and was a key member of the business start up team, becoming involved in many areas of the business outside of IT.

Rapidly developed and implemented application systems and communications infrastructure to support all areas of the business, thus enabling trading to commence within 9 months.

Planned and fitted out two head office locations and assisted with the fit out of the 1st and replacement 2nd distribution centre.

Built an IT department, and an appropriate IT strategy.

1986 – 1993 Granada Information Services Ltd Beds

GIS Ltd was the Group IT function within Granada Group Plc offering services on a commercial basis to group companies and 3rd party customers.

BHS is a fashion retailer operating 120 large stores across the UK., and was part of StoreHouse Plc.

TI is a manufacturer of semiconductors, computers and other electronic components and equipment.
