Work Experience

Ocean Music Trust May 1999 to Feb 2000

Operating Systems: NT 4.0, Win95
Languages: C++

Role: Video Artist

As a reasonably well known video artist I have received a commission for a large permanent video installation for a new venue opening in Hackney in May 2000. The ten screen installation will generate and edit its own visual sequences by sampling from cameras throughout the building and running those samples through software that I have designed and written. The software will alter the appearance of the video input and allow members of the public to interact with the input, creating their own video effects.

Recently I have taken time away from my primary career to complete this project. I have been running the planning for it in tandem with my contract work for the last two years. As the main video artist I have been involved in securing funding from the Arts Council, as well working within the requirements of and for the architects. This work has utilised my management and communication skills to the fullest.

The installation is now complete and waiting for its launch in August.

This was done so that additions and changes to the database design could easily be added to the merging process. I worked with the users of the database on a daily basis. I also provided consultancy to the designers changing the underlying entity model, and porting the legacy PICK information system to Oracle.
In addition to my major role I generated some additional tools for the company’s intranet system.

Software: ORACLE 8. SQA; REPORTS 2.5+3 Forms 4.5 + 5

Role: Designer/Analyst

Support and additional design for SMT (Supply Message Translator) software to interface with the external gateway. This software was necessary due to industry deregulation, as the gateway controls and distributes information between the suppliers, obeying a Data Catalogue Standard.

My major role was the design and build of OPERA, an automated front end to SMT which creates all outbound flows (messages) to SMT to follow a \'win\' customer business process. OPERA can work out from replies received from suppliers the messages it should send, and to whom it should send them to complete the process.

Both SMT and Opera follow my meta database design, where a few modules generate the code required from information within the data, in real time as it executes.
