Preparation for half year accounts (including identifying exposure to unrecorded supplier accruals) and liaison with external auditors.

Dec ‘00 – May ‘01 Black Box (turnover £50M)
Interim Financial Controller.
Completed a special internal audit, identifying loss and leading to write-off and inventory system changes and testing. Asked to manage team of 8 on an interim basis. Preparation of financial accounts & monthly management reports, budgets. Responsible for Credit Control project, financial controls, liaison with external auditors and year-end closing.

Full accounting responsibility for HO, financial control, Management Accounts, Annual Financial accounts and preparation for the successful external Audi. Recruited an “interim” assistant.
During maternity leave of the Treasury Accountant became responsible for the day to day financial control and preparation of monthly management accounts of the Group Treasury function.

Produced monthly accounts, forecasts and other ad hoc reports. Assisted with due diligence work and Completion Accounts during the takeover process by Global Crossing.


Previous career
1981- 1999 Panasonic UK Ltd (Turnover £800M)
(1995 – 1999) General Manager of Accounts Department.
Responsible for Finance, Internal Audit and Credit Control departments (23 staff). Achieved improvement in cashflow (Debtor days reduced from 35 to 29) and reporting deadline of 5 days.
General Management responsibilities included Pension scheme control, Project Management (Y2K, EMU, Cost Cutting & Customer Care) Joint Venture negotiations and Computer System migration.
Reduced overheads within the accounting department including reduction in Bad debts and credit insurance of almost 50%.
(1981 – 1995) Internal Audit
Successfully established IA department and recruited 2 assistants.
? Established and chaired a high-level security committee for risk-assessment.
Carried out Management audits including loss-making product ranges leading to fundamental changes.
Introduced tax-efficient bonus schemes including PRP.
Reported to Board level.
? Conducted company wide investigations, which in some cases identified the need for stronger internal controls. Two specific cases of fraud were identified which were resolved through prosecution and resignation.
Introduced organisational changes to improve the Internal Controls of the company, for example a specialist-buying department for advertising.
Researched wrote and introduced (with training) a company wide procedures manual incorporating full authorisation schedules.

Negotiated franchise, arranged finance and premises, recruited, trained and managed staff, arranged suppliers and managed sales and marketing before selling business at a profit.
