A highly successful senior International Healthcare Executive with 20 years experience across major corporations and niche, start-up companies in healthcare and science. A strong track record in strategic planning, strong financial management and the development and implementation of high value, cost saving, business systems world wide as well as in e-commerce and ERP.

Selected Achievements

· Headed the core team at Ciba Headquarters (now operating as Novartis), Switzerland; proposed worldwide reengineering strategic plan and control processes to the Board, including creation of a Global Financial IT system architecture. This process was successfully implemented across over 100 group companies worldwide with estimated cost reductions of some $75M.
· Implemented the strategic planning and control process for Ciba Pharmaceutical, delivering the most financially disciplined company across the Group with improved profit-to-sales ratio from 45% to over 60%.
· Established a software corporation in the US for CS Systems Inc; built an alliance with a major software development company which led to selling software and consultancy services to clients, generating $2M revenue per annum.
· Managed the acquisition of ‘ScienceWise’ by including functional due diligence business plans for the Board of Directors; this transaction led to acquisition of US Government long term contracts.
· Fostered the merger of Novartis UK through establishing business teams and conducting the management buy-out of the Publicity Organisation. Headed task force achievement of targeted cost savings of some $20M annually and met operational business objectives for successful company launch.
· Implemented MRPII and associated supply chain management, sales and operational plans; this resulted in reduction of stock from 6 to 2 months, saving $20M per annum.

2002 - Present: Health Care Consultancy ScienceFIRST LLC
Florida based company providing business solutions in government healthcare re-engineering, new business ventures, mergers and acquisitions, business processes etc.
· Managed considerable projects, including government pharmaceutical pricing policy/negotiations, re-engineering of public healthcare and scientific publishing.
· Appointed by Greek Government to provide advice, planning and implementation on:
a. Restructured strategies for Primary and Secondary care, including outsourcing of secondary care and private management of hospitals.
b. Computerised patients’ files, defining criteria to incorporate primary and secondary records and dispensing of medicines.


1999 - 2002: Senior Vice President Operations TheScientificWorld Inc
Established a one stop electronic publishing operation for scientists to gain easy access to 30 million scientific articles held by British Library & 7000 new articles published daily.
· Appointed to head IT, Customer Services, Finance and Administration and played pivotal role in securing $20m funding and arranged $2m revolving credit, even after 9/11.
· Acquired ScienceWise, including all due diligence; service provides on line processes and assistance to scientists seeking grants, with a customer base of in excess of 250,000.
· Created ‘LabSHELF’ as key unit to develop e-commerce; successfully developed and launched ‘TheScientificWorld’ website, with an initial $10M investment.
· Managed successful sale of company having added value to the investment.


1997 - 1999: General Manager CS Software Systems Inc. USA
A German company with a strong modular accounting package.
· Headhunted to launch product across USA through strategic alliances to secure client base. Secured 2,500 clients through SSA, System Software Associate.
· Developed Applications and Technical teams, delivering revenues of some $2M.
· Secured contracts providing financial and technical support major multinationals including Ciba SC, ICI, Boehringer Ingelheim, Givaudan Roure in activity based costing, budgeting & cost accounting.
· Left when US company sold to a partner and accepted role with TheScientificWorld.

1994 - 1996: Head of Systems & Business Development Novartis Pharmaceuticals
$6bn t/o, 200,000 employee merger of Ciba & Sandoz
· Promoted to core team, UK & Switzerland, completing full merger & integration.
· Headed merger task forces which achieved target $20m cost savings annually.
· Lead team which secured Board approval for worldwide BPR strategic plan and global financial IT system for worldwide management and reporting; implemented in 100 group companies with estimated cost savings $75m.
· Negotiated multi-million sterling price increases with UK Department of Health under the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme.
· Evaluated and negotiated UK joint ventures (JVs), business acquisitions & other ventures resulting in Boots & Zeneca JVs.

1986 – 1994: Head of Planning Information & Control Ciba Pharmaceuticals
$200m UK division including Production and 2 R&D facilities, Sales, Finance & Administration
· Promoted to International Employee status and appointed to UK HQ at Horsham.
· Managed all strategic planning, cost and management accounts, budgets, transfer pricing and UK product pricing with Department of Health
· Achieved most financially disciplined company in Group by implementing excellent planning, control and associated IT systems, improving profit to sales ratio by 15%.
· Implemented MRPII, supply chain management and planning; reduced stocks from 6 to 2 months with inventory savings of some $20M.
· Ensured price harmonisation throughout Europe through working with parent company.
· Managed £32M capital programme for new Production and R&D facilities.
