Work Experience

1. Currently analyzing the combined software licence position of Phillips and Conoco software products in order to carry out novation of all provable licensing to ConocoPhillips UK and establish licence compliance for the merged company along with processes and procedures to maintain compliance. This is a 6 month project comprising senior technicians, administrators, IT Management and outsourced assistance from a Vendor procured via a full bid process to cover licence recognition. Value around £500k including licence costs to achieve compliance.

2. Currently representing Phillips interests in a cross industry development involving funding by 14 UK based major Oil Companies for a new Personnel Tracking system to replace MAPS, which is now at end of life. The 2.5 year project involves senior IT Managers from all companies and is worth approximately £2m in total for the industry as a whole. Assisted with the bid selection process to choose the developer and work as part of a small team of 6 to provide strategic and tactical guidance on issues as they arise. Implementation expected by mid 2003.

3. Managed the outsourced element of a project designed to replace Netware, NDS and IPX protocol with the IP protocol and Microsoft Win2000/Active Directory on servers, desktops and laptops for UK Division. Successfully adopted a project delivery incentive scheme whereby the Vendor, responsible for the PC image, repackaging products and data migration, was paid a bonus to complete within time and manpower limits. The project team of 12 was a mix of 6 senior technicians from Phillips and the Vendor plus a Vendor Project Manager and 5 junior technicians all operating out of the Phillips HO. Monetary costs - £1m.

4. Management of Help Desk and 2nd Line Support team. Main achievements in this role were as follows:-

• Initiated the analysis of Total Cost of Ownership of UK wide desktop and laptop PC population (700 Users, 650 desktops, 120 laptops) and, as a result, successfully led the project to carry out a mass replacement of all Desktop PCs in Phillips UK. This achieved a standard desktop hardware configuration throughout the UK division and introduced a simplified support model. Included hardware tendering, supply and leasing plus roll-out logistics. Good communication with User management was important. The team consisted of senior and junior technicians plus administrative staff totaling 11. Monetary value was approximately £750k across all 7 Phillips UK sites (2 offshore) and took 12 months in total.

Spin-offs from the TCO analysis include :-

• the use of Citrix thin client computing as a possible alternative to conventional desktop PCs. Having run a pilot the concept was felt to be too immature and inflexible for general office use but was introduced at 8 external Vendor sites to provide a common networked environment for the distributed engineering team of about 30 Phillips engineers during the construction of a new $650M offshore production platform.

• the introduction of the concept of using PDAs as a possible route to reducing the laptop population (120) due to high TCO for laptops. Interesting lessons learned with regard to fundamental aspects of PDAs and the introduction of a totally new computing concept to a large organisation.

Senior Specialist/Supervisor – IT Department 1991 - 1998

5. Organised and drove the migration from Lotus Smartsuite to Microsoft Office as a result of Corporate directive, leading a team of technicians and an administrator. Main areas included defining, out-sourcing and organising training courses plus persuading approx. 700 Users at 3 sites to migrate while taking care of the conversion of their critical documents and spreadsheets. Monetary value of the project was approximately £250,000 over a 3 month period.

6. Analysed and developed the IT Business Resumption Plan for the UK Division due to concerns regarding the potential effect on the business that loss of access to premises could have, illustrated by the Oklahoma City bombing outrage in the USA in April 1995. Potential saving to the Company, had the plan been required, was anything up to the total business worth of the UK Division.

7. Active member of US-led project to introduce synchronized password system for Corporation. A 2 year technically complex project involving all corporate sites worldwide. UK had responsibility for Norway. Total cost approximately $4m.

8. • Maintenance System for use by offshore platforms and an onshore gas treatment plant. Based on a relational database product and successfully used for about 7 years until superseded by SAP PM.

• Product Allocation System at the Bacton Gas Treatment Plant based on a relational database product. This work required a detailed understanding and interpretation of evolving legal allocation agreements. The first major PC development undertaken by UK IT originally developed in 1985 and rewritten in 1992.

• Personnel Tracking System for use on offshore platforms to meet the legislative requirements of the Cullen report after the Occidental Piper Alpha disaster. Based on a relational database product and in service for about 5 years.
