Onsite Recruitment Manager

Employed on a contract basis to a start up telecommunication manufacturing company.

This company had been experiencing a number of problems in it’s recruitment objectives, (both internal and external), which was having major implications on it’s ability to deliver an innovative product within the times scales directed from the initial funding by the parent company. The role involved strategic improvements to their recruitment process, increasing the quantity and quality of incoming CV’s (directly and via 3rd party agencies) and ultimately achieving the desired strategic head count figures.

Once procedures were put in place, the next task was to identify and establish co-operative relationship with a number of Recruitment Agents, both current suppliers and new. Many of the current suppliers had become disillusioned with the organisation for a number of reasons. Agencies found the new method particularly useful and that information given on the vacancy requirements by the various internal teams was passed to them in a manner that they could understand and work to.

Furthermore it was important that the company’s recruitment processes were streamlined, and a major part of the responsibility involved reducing the number of CV’s viewed by the line managers. This required detailed understanding of each requirement and the short-listing of submitted CV’s to those most appropriate for each position.

A great deal of tact and diplomacy was often called for in order to gain trust and action from some line managers or to overcome internal management differences between staff.

The interview process also varied from one applicant to another, and one line manager to the next. In order to ensure that all applicants were adjudged equally ‘Interview Training’ seminars were designed and delivered to all members of staff on interview techniques and structure.

As a result of the new processes, improved communication and the focus brought to recruitment - at the beginning of June 2001 target figures forecast on headcount for November 2001 had been achieved.
Other tasks included negotiating discounted advertising rates in a number of mediums - publications, internet and radio. Organising and presenting an ‘Open Day’ for all Recruitment Agencies. General advice on recruitment policy, market conditions and legal matters.

Recently quoted by the CEO* of the company as “Singularly, having the most significant individual impact on the future potential success of the company…!”
