Work Experience

1991 – Jul 2000
Pat started Data Factors Ltd, after being made redundant. The company developed and sells a generic and modular transaction processing system major stadium based sports venues. These were originally sold as turnkey system sales. In mid ’99 the company was re-engineered to operate as an ASP, selling services.

The business has just been sold (see www.datafactors.com). As founder and managing director, his contribution included many different aspects. These ranged from motivating and directing the development team, to marketing, financial management and personal sales.

He became well known in the sports industry as a good public speaker and has spoken at many seminars and conferences over the past four years.

1985 - 1990
He joined AT&T Istel (Istel as they were then) as a Communications Consultant. At that time, the company was amongst the largest batch processing bureaus in the country, with 95% of data arriving by communications links.

Within three months, he won agreement to dispose of a major and recently purchased X25 packet switching network and implement a nation-wide multi-protocol network. This network was used by every on-line travel agent in the UK and was the first of its kind.

He then moved to business development in order to write the business case for investment in an EDI clearing house. He remained in business development as a business unit manager, and took the project from initial business case, through development to sales and marketing launch. These two networks went on to become the backbone of AT&T’s European operation.

1981 - 1985
After five years overseas, he joined a data communications specialist, as a support engineer. He rapidly progressed from maintenance to pre-sales support. He then requested a move to sales, believing he could do the products justice when others might not.

The products the company sold were complex switching multiplexors. His technical expertise and ability to grasp customer’s business requirements helped him to meet two successive years’ targets. He eventually became the major account manager for Istel who was one of the company’s largest customers. Their contact with him led them to recruit him.

1975 – 1981
Promoted to Zambia on a two-year contract as support manager for an Olivetti franchise, he was instrumental in the take-over of a major competitor. He then became business Manager and was responsible for the growth of both the sales and service business to three branches and thirty-five staff. During this growth, they acquired a competitor and integrated this fully with the Olivetti business.
