AMYLUM GROEP

The Amylum group is an international holding with branches in West- and Eastern-Europe and the Far East. Starch containing raw materials as maize, wheat, rice and Tapioca are processed into dry starch, modified starches, different sugars and there by-products. I learned to work n an process as well project environment. The group invested about 600 million US $ in 5 years.

January 1994 - January 1996: Amylum "Bulgaria"

During two years I’ve worked in Razgrad, Bulgaria in a subsidiary called "Tzaramyl" as a process engineer and co-start-up responsible in an international start-up team. Our goal was to finish this former non finished state enterprise, to start it up and make it rentable. During that time I was responsible for following tasks:

• January 1994 - May 1995 During this period I finalised, (water)tested and did the start-up of the maize silo, the maize mill and the enzymatic conversion lines. I organized the shifts and was responsible for the training of young new labourers. This function was gradually transferred to a local responsible in training. I reported directly to the production manager.

• May 1995 - September 1995 : In May 1995 I was requested to lead a project to improve the quality control. I was responsible for the organisation of the automation, set-up of a computer program for the planning of the supplies of finished products. The main goal was delivery of products according the specified standards in cooperation with the production and sales manager. For this project I also worked together with the responsible people of dispatching, lab en IT. I reported directly to the production manager.

• September 1995 - January 1996 :
During this period I set-up an inventory program for the stock of existing spare parts and an automatic order system for required new spare parts and raw material. At the same time I reorganized the warehouse in cooperation with the production manager and purchasing. I reported directly to the production manager.

January 1996 - February 1996 : Amylum Group

During this 2 months I made short studies for some smaller projects in several Amylum subsidiaries in cooperation with R&D.

• Amylum Greece : Study of a continuous working reactor : pilot
• Amylum UK : Study of a demineralisation unit
• Amylum Hungrana : Study of a membrane filtration unit
• Amylum Slovakia : Start-up of a Jet conversion system
• Amylum Netherlands : Study of a starch katalysator


February 1996 - January 1998 : Amylum "Turkey"

In January 1996 all responsibilities were transferred to the local Bulgarian colleagues and the start-up team moved to Adana, Turkey. "Pak Nisasta" was a small family company that was shortlybefore acquired by the Amylum Group. The main tasks were the modernisation of the company and the introduction of new products. Next to that the production capacity was increased from 100 MTPD to 300 MTPD. I was responsible to below tasks :

• February 1996 - December 1997 : Start-up of the new sugar refinery (dextrose, glucose, maltose en fructose line) and the training of new labourers and foremen for this department. Organisation of the control of the process and the sample taking. In this function I reported to the manager Eastern Europe.

• December 1997 - January 1998 :
I was appointed as head of the process design for the second capacity increase from 300 MTPD tot 600 MTPD. In a project of 23 million the starch plant, the sugar refinery and the applicable utilities were doubled. I made the capex and the incentive, the layouts, the mass balance, the P&ID’s and the technical requirement information for purchasing. I kept track of the expenses and controlled the committed expenditures. I reported directly to the manager Eastern Europe.

January 1998 – June 2001 : Amylum “Belgium”

After the project in Turkey I started in the head quarters in Aalst as project engineer mainly to start-up and conduct projects for R&D :

• January 1998 – June 2001 :
 Start-up and expansion of several lines in the sugar refinery (malto dextrines, dextrose, glucose, maltose en fructose line).
 Co-responsible for the start-up of a blend station for finished sugars.
 Responsible for development and start-up of a rinse and disinfection installation for trucks and containers.
 Write the ISO9001-documents (HACCP, WIB, training instructions, …) for these new installations
 Start-up of decanters in the starch separation, of hydrocyclones for the starch rinsing, of decanters for silt de-hydration and silt driers.
 Optimisation of the water balance.
 Optimisation and testing of the several anti foam products in the complete production process.
 Start-up of the SWP installation
 Start-up of the membrane filtration unit for separation of sugars in cooperation with VITO


In June 2001 I left the Amylum group.


KATHY CHOCOLATERIE, DUC DE FLANDRES

The Kathy Chocolaterie group is a medium sized privately owned company with production locations in Belgium and France. The company produces chocolate truffles and sweets based on chocolate and various stuffing.

From June 2001 I worked for Kathy Chocolaterie with head quarters in Brugge. I was production manager in the subsidiary in Wormhout (France) and final responsible towards the management in Brugge. The production in Wormhout has 2 lines.

In this function I was responsible for:

• The management of the company :
 Lead and coach the employees (staff, labourers and interims)
 Communication with the management in Brugge
• The planning of production.
 Arrange the shifts (fixed labourers and interims).
 Control the stock of raw material and packaging.
 Intercompany transport.
 Implementation of the data in SAP
• The planning and control of the maintenance.
 Arrange the shifts (with internal and externals employees).
 Make the planning for the maintenance jobs (aligned with production).
 Request for quotations.
 Control of the budgets for maintenance.
 Ordering of spare parts and management of the maintenance warehouse in cooperation with the maintenance responsible.
• Control of quality and improvement of the production output
 Write and implement log sheets and work instructions
 Install traceability en track-ability (recall)
 Complaints handling
 Control of the quality in cooperation with the lab in Brugge
 Benchmarks and cost calculation.
• Development of new products, introduce and do the line tests of these new products.
• Implement safety regulations and rules of conduct.
 Responsible for Safety and Environment
• Contact person for environmental, labour and food inspection.


In March 2003 I left Kathy chocolaterie whilst also the general manager, the sales manager, the technical manager and the production manager left the company. The increasing quarrels internally in the family and the un-will to do urgent investments in the company, moreover the many troubles to do in time payment of my costs and that of other employees were at the basis of my decision.



FJORD SEAFOOD PIETERS

Fjord Seafood Pieters (earlier Pieters Visbedrijf) is a fish processing company with locations in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. It is 100% owned by the Norwegian Fjord Seafood, and recently merged with Marine Harvest.

From March 2003 I worked at the headquarters in Bruges. I was as unit manager responsible for the deep freeze department.
The production has 5 lines. I had 40 employees under my responsibility in a 3 shifts system, including 2 production managers and 2 foremen.

In this function I was responsible for:

• Personnel
 In cooperation with human resources I did selection and contracting of new employees
 Coach and evaluate the employees (yearly appraisal)
 Organize training for new employees

• Production
 Follow-up of the production planning with one of the production managers (day to day planning)
 Composition of product cards (= calculation of production cost based on raw material cost, wages, depreciation and maintenance
 After calculation and adapting production based on internal reports.
 Coaching and evaluation of audits in cooperation with the quality department
 Execute and do the follow-up of internal G.M.P.’s and internal hygiene
 Complaint handling
 Write work instructions, training programs and issue a reporting system.
 Issue maintenance schemes in cooperation with the technical department

• Projects
 Testing of new products and production machinery in cooperation with NPD (New Product Development)
 In collaboration with TPD (project department), implement new projects (eg. Introduction of scanning)
 Compose CAPEX and OPEX
 Make and follow-up budgets and investments
 Implement projects in production (practical work-out)
 Financial evaluation of projects (payback)
 Renew the production facilities based on technical and financial possibilities

• Implement safety regulations and rules of conduct.


In January 2005 I left Fjord Seafood Pieters in mutual agreement after several internal disputes and because disagreement with the general working attitude at Pieters.





ADIEL MAES

From 1 December2005 until 30 April 2006 I worked at Adiel Maes in Lichtervelde.
Adiel Maes is a medium sized privately owned company doing road works. They work in 3 teams and one of these is the asphalt team of which I was the team leader. The asphalt team consisted of 4 road workers and 6 to 8 drivers for the supply of asphalt.

In this function I was responsible for:

• Measuring the sites (m²)
• Planning (turning of trucks in beginning and end of the site)
• Ordering of the correct amount of asphalt in Doornik
• Execute the road works on site (pour the asphalt or gravel, control of the thickness of the different layers, position of the road surface)
• Keep track of the used tonnage of asphalt
• At some occasion be present at a control drill

On 2 May I was dismissed by Adiel Maes because it was clear that the physical work load was too heavy for me and further cooperation was not possible anymore.


FREELANCE ENGINEER

From 27 November 2006 I started as freelance engineer for projects, process improvements and start-up engineering

November 2006 – May 2007 : Gourmand Mouscron

Gourmand (member of the Dossche group Deinze) is producing a wide array of deep-frozen viennoiseries and bread specialties exported to more than 15 countries. Between 2005 and 2006 a new ultramodern bakery company was set-up after the demolition of the old factory end 2004 in a devastating fire. As production manager I got the task to further improve and optimise the production of this new plant.

In this function I was responsible for :
• Doubling the production capacity
• Make a return on investment study and budgetary calculations
• Updating BRC programs and audits
• set-up a rinsing program
• contract and coach a new supply chain manger and set-up the logistic channels
• write and implement the work instructions and the traceability system
• Study of the waste problems and recycling opportunities of rejected products


December 2007 – now : Anaconda

In cooperation with some other colleague engineers we run an office for Direct Search and Headhunting. The headquarters of Anaconda are located in Schilde and I am responsible for the region West-Flanders with office in Brugge.

In this function I was responsible for:

• The prospection of companies, contact the companies and list them for future contracting
• Visit these companies to explain the way of working of Anaconda and discuss the requirements of the vacant functions
• Draft and discuss contracts
• Search for suitable candidates to fill the vacancies
• Follow-up of the candidates



OTHERS


• The computer is for me a useful tool for every task. I work daily with Microsoft Word, Excel, Acces, Powerpoint and Project, Adobe acrobat, Claris Filemaker pro and Draw
• Contacts: Through the different projects I handled I had contact with several Belgian and foreign companies such as : Dorr-Oliver, Abay, Honeywell, Matech, Vetter, Eimco, IWT, Applexion, Dedert, Wiegand, Durco, Siemens, Ishida, Aqarius etc, ...

• Mobility: I have my own car (drivers license B) and I’m willing to work abroad

• Hobby :
 Sports: I go swimming weekly and I am a licensed PADI scuba dive master. During winter skiing is my favourite sport.
 Until some years ago I was district leader of the Flemish scouting organisation for my region. As responsible for supervision on the 40 local groups I gained a lot of experience in leading and coaching of groups of young people and their related organisations.
 I’m still member of a group of former scouts of VVKSM Noordland Bredene. We organise every year a few activities for the former scouts and their families.
