Employer: Heineken N.V. – Food Industry (NL)
August 2007 – April 2008
Graduate Student at the department Corporate Distribution & Logistics (CDL)
Global internal benchmark study with the goal to identify so-called ‘good practices’ that can improve the process of primary distribution at Heineken.
In light of the new Knowledge Management approach I have developed a questionnaire to map the logistical processes, performance, and used ‘practices’ of the primary distribution process. I have used the SCOR model as a framework for reference. Furthermore, I have facilitated the roll-out of the questionnaire and kept in contact with all respondents in order to make sure everything is clear and the questionnaire remained under their attention. As a next step, I have verified and analyzed the returned questionnaires. By means of statistical analyses I have attempted to identify so-called ‘good practices’ based on significant correlation with good performance. I have adjusted the performance measures for external factors of influence (e.g. differences in wage costs per hour, average number of kilometers per drop, etc.)

Employer: Dawn Foods Europe – Food Industry (NL)
March 2007 – May 2007
Process quality-improvement assignment for the Master Elective ‘Business Process Excellence’.
Description
In a team with three colleague students we have applied the Total Productive Maintenance methodology to identify the ‘waste’ that is formed during the process and the causes leading to this ‘waste’.
Our team has designed measurement lists to identify the locations where a lot of ‘waste’ is caused. Next to that, we have undertaken an experiment to evaluate the objectivity in the process of the ‘spotters’. The ‘spotters’ where given one minute to identify the muffins they would normally judge to be waste out of a group of 250 muffins. On the basis of this investigation Dawn Foods has, among other things, evaluated the cost / quality balance that it wants to maintain.
