Part of Japanese stock listed company Sekisui Chemical Co., ltd.

Sekisui S-Lec is market leader in the supply of PVB film used in windshields for automobiles and safety-glass facades in the architectural segment. The operating company in Roermond, part of a global business unit has full P&L accountability within the Sekisui Chemical group. The markets cover automotive suppliers (OEM) and architecture suppliers mainly throughout Europe, Russia, Africa but also Middle East and Japan.

The operating company has 2 plants: a PVB film plant (located in Roermond, NL) and a PVB raw material plant (located in Geleen, NL) and has approximately 170 employees. The annual turnover is more than € 145 million (2010).

Managing director/CEO
April 2005 – February ‘11

Responsible to the Business unit CEO and accountable for achievement of profit, cash and ROI targets for the company; the development and implementation of organic and acquisitive growth strategies.
Within the Global business unit responsible for Global Key account management & Global Marketing for the Construction segment and Supply chain management for strategic Key raw materials from third parties.

• Turnover increased from € 95 to € 145 million in last 5 years, mainly by developing new geographical areas (Eastern Europe, Northern Africa).
• EBITDA increased from 15 % to 23 % by improving the product portfolio exchanging low margin standard products to new innovative multifunction products through active marketing and direct promotion to all major OEM’s.
• Established integrated supply chain for the total business unit on a world wide level.
o All key raw materials are dual sourced from regional suppliers based on multi year contacts, focussing on partnerships and competitive cost.

• Integration of the Spanish PVOH business after M&A (2009) into the European business unit. Main issue was a smooth transition from Celanese to Sekisui both from a commercial point of view as well as maintaining a motivated Sales team.
o Established an integrated Sales & Marketing team in Europe.
o Maintained excellent relationships with key accounts (adhesives, coatings.)
• Introduced New Global Brand image for the construction segment.
o Global S-Lec® Brand.(2006)
o Promotion at major exhibitions globally. (Bau, Batimat, Glasstech, NPRA, etc.)
o Direct promotion to architects, project developers and designers.
o S-Lec® is used in several high profile projects (Bundestag, Heathrow, etc.)

In this period I started to lead a programme with respect to making the organisation more involved, effective and efficient by redesigning the roles & responsibilities within the company and the introduction of continuous improvement by 5S and KAIZEN.
Developped a marketing strategy, including branding and promotion to introduce the next generation of high margin innovative products with combined functions next to safety.

• Expansion of production from 10 KT to 15 KT
• Centralisation of Sales function, liquidating the German representative office.

During this period I successfully led a profit improvement program to enable sustainable growth for the operating company. The program was metric driven and covered lowering fixed and variable costs in order to ensure the mid term targeted operating income. Further more, the program required organisational and people development aspects.

• Implementation of New ERP system (SAP) within 9 month.

Kappa Eskaboard (Hoogezand, NL)
Formerly part of stock listed company KNP BT.

Kappa Eskaboard is producer of graphical board for the bookbinding and display industry, using 100 % recycled paper.

Plant manager
March ’95 – July ‘96

Responsible to the managing director Accountable for the day to day business; Production, Maintenance and Quality assurance, of the plant Hoogezand (270 employees), Sales turnover € 80 million, budget responsible for € 15 million.

Responsible to the technical director. Accountable for production of graphical board on two Board machines and one paper machine with an annual output of more then 120,000 ton. partly operating in 5-shifts (150 employees), partly in 3-shifts (30 employees)
• Start up of a new Board machine (investment € 30 million)
• Expansion of production team with 40 employees, responsible for the training and recruiting.

• Developed a state of the art design for a new Board machine.
